Preposition Definition and Examples A Preposition is a word which is placed before a noun (or a pronoun) to show the relation in which the person or thing denoted by the Noun stands to something else. Examples: The book is on the table. The pen is in the pen–stand. The sky is above us. He came with us. Prepositions of Time: 1. At: At is used to indicate when something happens. We use at with clock times, e.g. periods of the year, and periods of the day, festivals, etc. But we don’t use at with ‘morning’, ‘evening’, ‘afternoon’, etc. The train left at 8 o’clock. She used to go to the temple at Dussehra and Diwali. He came here at the weekend. She married at the age of twenty. I called on my friend at night. We rested at noon/dawn/dusk. 2.
